Miracle Mile by STRFKR

Who's coming with me to see STRFKR (aka Starfucker) at The Fonda this Saturday 3/2?? I don't have tickets yet but I know can snag a pair if I try. I REALLY want to finally see them for my 1st time (after missing their set at more than 1 music festival in the past couple years) 'cuz their new album Miracle Mile is ridiculously good! I just need a concert buddy so, if you're smart, you'll join me on Saturday!

The Growl

I wish The Growl had been opening for Tame Impala back when I saw Tame Impala play The Fonda back in November! Hopefully they'll play Outside Lands or FYF Fest 'cuz I'd really like to check them out!

BRAND NEW Track from Yeah Yeah Yeahs = SACRILEGE!!!

A brand new track from Yeah Yeah Yeahs (& my girlfriend, Karen O) brightens even the darkest, piece of sh*t Monday ;)

I CANNOT WAIT for this full length new album to drop! And I don't care who the headliners of Coachella 2013 technically are because, as far as I'm concerned, YYYs are headlining!!!

Listen to Atoms for Peace's FIRST OFFICIAL ALBUM Amok NOW!

Although it's not officially going to be released until Monday, you can listen to Atoms for Peace's first official album Amok on NPR right now! Yes!!!

Via Spin.com -> Atoms For Peace, Amok. "[Thom] Yorke lays his weary-but-soaring vocals over an assortment of sounds that whir, clatter, click, twitch and sprawl... Amok
finds a way to meet in the middle between a buzzy bedroom project like The Eraser and Radiohead's own full-blooded grandiosity — in part because the new album so effectively blurs the lines between electronics and live instrumentation." (via NPR)

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division (1979) - FULL ALBUM

It brings me great JOY to have just discovered Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division is available in its ENTIRETY on Youtube...especially since Youtube is pretty much the only website I'm NOT blocked from at work & can actually use to listen to music while in the office! :-P

SCORE.

NEW Born Ruffians!!!

I can't believe I almost forgot about Born Ruffians! I was really into them about 3-4 years ago but, because they kinda fell off the radar for a while, I hadn't thought about them in a VERY long time...until yesterday when I found out they're playing The Troubadour on May 6th! Tickets go on sale tomorrow 2/21 at 1pm!

Foxygen & Unknown Mortal Orchestra @ The Echoplex - 2/15/13

I'm so happy I was lucky enough to snag a last minute ticket to the sold out Foxygen & Unknown Mortal Orchestra show at The Echoplex last Friday night!! Foxygen is kinda blowin' up right now & for good reason. Their latest album We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic is simply fabulous. And, apparently, Unknown Mortal Orchestra has been around for quite a while & is lot more "known" than I realized because they seemed to have a pretty solid fanbase & were EXCELLENT live.

The only bummer of the evening was that I forgot my brand new 20x zoom Lumix Panasonic camera at home so I was forced to settle for iPhone footage only. My new iPhone takes OK videos but the audio isn't that great & there's no zoom (& I REALLY like zoom!). So my videos don't do either band ANY justice but take my word for it. Both were well worth the trek from the west side to Echo Park!

And a celebrity sighting sidenote: For a few minutes in between Foxygen & UMO's sets, I was standing literally 1-2 feet behind Danger Mouse & James Mercer!!! They seemed to be scoping out a spot for UMO's closing set. DM & I even made eye contact for 1/2 a second & Mercer almost bumped into me walking back toward the bar. I've seen Danger Mouse at 3 shows in the past year now (Other Lives, My Morning Jacket & now Foxygen/UMO) & every time I've been standing SO close to him dying to talk to him but, of course, I never did. I have to at least PRETEND to be cool even if I'm really freaking out in my head...lol.

Beck Reimagines David Bowie's Sound & Vision with 160+ Person Band - 360° Experience Coming Soon!!!

This is one of the coolest things I've EVER seen/heard & it's technically only a teaser for the full 360° experience coming soon to www.hello-again.com!!! I'll be sure to notify everyone as soon as the full experience is available :)

For now, PLEASE be sure to watch this entire 10 minute performance by Beck & his 160+ person band reimagining David Bowie's Sound And Vision. Beck, director Chris Milk & every single band member are absolutely AMAZING. I SO very much wish I could've witnessed this live.

I actually did receive an Email from Beck's marketing team in late January 2013 instructing me to submit for a chance to attend a special, last-minute, top-secret Beck event in Los Angeles the following week but, unfortunately, my entry wasn't selected. I quickly discovered THIS was the event I just barely missed! Darnit!

On the bright side, I ended up seeing the Dirty Projectors at Troubadour in West Hollywood on the same night (my 1st Dirty Projectors show ever!) & they were INCREDIBLE live so that was certainly a consolation :)

Beak> @ The Echoplex - 2/12/13

If Portishead, Animal Collective & Tool had a baby, I imagine it'd be a lot like Beak>

Geoff Barrow of Portishead is the man. Beak>'s show last night at The Echoplex was f*ckin incredible.

Huey Lewis & The News @ Santa Clara University's Golden Circle - 2/9/13

Once a year, my family gets all dolled up to attend Santa Clara's annual Golden Circle charity ball & we always have a blast. Last Saturday night was no exception.

And Huey Lewis showed up this time! The nicest part was Huey sincerely apologized for bailing only 3 days before the show (3 years ago) to both my dad personally when we got to meet him backstage before the show & take a photo with him as well as to the entire audience toward the beginning of his show. I decided immediately I forgive him...lol. Huey then proceeded to put on 1 of the best Golden Circle performances ever!

Dirty Projectors @ Troubadour - 2/5/13

I still can't believe I got to see Dirty Projectors for my 1st time at the Troubadour on Tuesday night! It's such a small & intimate venue & Dirty Projectors just blew me away. They're definitely a band you need to see live in order to truly & properly appreciate their art. The girls' harmonies blend beautifully with the lead singer's uniquely strange voice. Their music is a blissfully sweet & gorgeous chaos that I can't stop thinking about. I'm going to be front row & center at their Sasquatch set in May. I already can't wait to see them again!

FYI - Security stopped me from taking video so I only managed to get the 1st minute of Just From Chevron. Be sure to check out the additional recorded tracks below for extra Dirty Projectors enlightenment :)

SUPER BOWL XLVII (& Beyonce's Halftime Show) in New Orleans - 2/3/13

I've been spoiled rotten by my father lately. First, he took me to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in January then, because, on the very afternoon we got back to the States, the 49ers beat the Falcons IN Atlanta becoming the NFC champions, my AMAZING father decided to bring me with him to New Orleans (a city neither of us had ever visited before) to go to Super Bowl XLVII!! We left California on Saturday morning & came back on Monday afternoon so it was whirlwind trip but getting to wander around New Orleans, including Bourbon Street & the French Quarter, for hours before the game on Sunday (while we were still SO full of hope) was SUCH a blast!! I love NOLA & already can't wait to go back.

Also, I've still got mad love for my Niners! They weren't looking good in the 1st half of the game & I was really scared it was going to be a mortifying blow-out but, after the 35 minute power outage ended, my boys finally got their mojo back & turned the Super Bowl into a f*ckin GAME. I was screaming my head off every time Baltimore had the ball & I honestly feel as though that helped cause the Ravens to screw up :) We had a chance to win the game all the way down to the last 4 seconds so that made the 2nd half extremely exciting.

My dad & I were unbelievably sad when we lost but we still considered our 1st trip to New Orleans an overall success because we had such an awesome time (especially before we knew the outcome of the game...lol) & we both were to proud rock Niners gear on our trip back to Cali on Monday. People gave us a lot of condolences. FOREVER FAITHFUL!!!

Oh! And I must admit: Beyonce's halftime show was awesome!! I still have my blue finger lights :) :)

Full Of Fire by Marit Östberg & The Knife

I'm SO excited for The Knife to release their 1st studio album since Silent Shout was released 7 years ago! The new album is called Shaking The Habitual & it's set to be released this April. I'm also DYING to finally see The Knife live! I was praying they'd play Coachella &/or Sasquatch this year but, now that both lineups have been released, no dice :-/ I'm keeping my fingers crossed they come through LA promoting their new album sometime this summer or fall though.

In the meantime, check out Full Of Fire, a short film by Marit Östberg with music by The Knife.

Geographer & On An On @ The Echo - 2/1/13

Since sold out Geographer & On An On show at The Echo on Friday night was SO extremely packed, I wasn't able to get any decent footage of the show but I promise it was AWESOME. Both bands are put on an excellent live show. I'd highly recommend seeing them next chance you get!

Jim James Performing A New Life (with The Roots!) on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

There's much more stardust when Jim James is near :) :) :)

"Most beautiful song I ever played on LateNight." -Questlove

I've seen My Morning Jacket 11 TIMES which is more than I've seen any other artist & I'm absolutely in love with Jim James. His debut solo album Regions of Light and Sound of God was just released today &, although I've only been able to give it 1 full listen thus far, I can already confirm the fact it is AMAZING. This man can do no wrong. Like I've said before, he really does have the voice of an angel. In my mind, Jim James' voice IS the sound of God :)

I'm giddy with excitement to go to world famous Fillmore in San Francisco for my 1st time ever to see Jim on 5/12. There will undoubtedly be more swooning to follow...

I'm way too swamped at work this morning to say anything more than this: The 2013 Sasquatch Music Festival lineup is here & it is STACKED! I'm SO pumped for my 4th Sasquatch in a row at the absolutely BREATHTAKING Gorge in George, Washington!!! If you've never been to Sasquatch before, this year is the year to go!

Local Natives @ The Fonda - 1/28/13

OK so I officially DESPISE the balcony at the Fonda. Unless you're standing either directly on the railing or only 1 row back from the people on the railing, you can't see SHIT. For this reason, my friends & I totally got the shaft on Monday night at the 1st of 2 sold out Local Natives' shows. We spent the entire set jumping around the balcony trying to catch glimpses of the stage through people's legs, around their giant fros, etc. It was annoying, man.

On the bright side, despite me not being able to actually SEE much of them, Local Natives fuckin KILLED it. Their voices & harmonies are SO incredibly beautiful & I love all the songs off their new album (most of which I was hearing for the 1st time on Monday night).

Since I couldn't get any decent video footage, here's 1 of my favorite new songs from Hummingbird which was just released this past Tuesday 1/29. I'm already very much looking forward to seeing Local Natives again at Coachella in April!
